Bardiglio Nuvolato marble
The sculpture is made in Bardiglio Nuvolato marble, an Italian variety known for its bluish-gray tones, whitish areas and dark, wavy veins. Formed when limestone is transformed by pressure and heat, it shows a natural pattern reminiscent of clouds and swirls that follows the movement of the figure.
A brownish mineral inclusion on the chest brings a warm contrast to the stone. While carving with the angle grinder, this area threw off sparks on contact with the disc, a singular moment in the making of the piece. Kept as part of the work, it reveals the diversity of the material and connects the sculpture with the natural history of the stone.
